Advent 2008

Advent is a time of preparation for Christmas, a time to decorate the house and Christmas tree and a time to buy presents and send cards. In the Church, Advent is the season four weeks before which begins on the Sunday nearest to 30th November and is a period of preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus.

On each of the four Sundays, a candle will be lit and the light of the candles becomes an important symbol of the season. The light reminds us that Jesus is the light of the world that comes into the darkness of our lives to bring newness, life, and hope. It also reminds us that we are called to be a light to the world as we reflect the light of God's grace to others. In the midst of our church we know that just as we prepare for Christmas, so we have to make ready to welcome Jesus in our lives and make time to prepare our hearts and souls for the message of Christmas day.
